Page history last edited by Jane Secker 12 years, 10 months ago

An IL curriculum (following the revised SCONUL 7 pillars) includes the ability to:

1. Identify

2. Scope

3. Plan

4. Gather

5. Evaluate

6. Manage

7. Present information

The full information is at: http://www.sconul.ac.uk/groups/information_literacy/seven_pillars.html

This could mean:

- information authenticity - ensuring students understand the broad range of digital information sources (from formal to informal, scholarly to popular)

- ability to use new technologies to find information - RSS feeds, Using Yahoo Pipes (http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/), setting up Google Custom searches (http://www.google.co.uk/cse/)

- Data manipulation - statistical analysis using tools such as Google Refine

- Privacy and security (e-safety?) - the issues / downside of social networking. How to manage your web presence - balancing the public and private in a social world.

- Licensing and Creative Commons - sharing and presenting your work for others to re-use

- Information management tools going beyond reference management - on multiple platforms - services such as Evernote: http://www.evernote.com/about/home.php

- Supporting mobile (anytime, anywhere) learning and managing data between your laptop, mobile, tablet etc.
